"David Cameron" Stumped By David Letterman's History 'Quiz'...

David Cameron has performed another u-turn, this time on the value of expressing himself in 140 characters. The Tory leader is to join Twitter, despite once warning: ‘Too many tweets make a t***.’ The Prime Minister, who is today on a visit to the America, is taking inspiration from US President Barack Obama’s use of the microblogging site to connect with voters and push rapid responses to political rows. David Cameron charged China and Russia with blocking international efforts to halt the war in Syria and even suggested they had "aided and abetted" President Bashar al-Assad's "reign of terror". While Mr Cameron, in an address to the United Nations yesterday, did not mention them by name, it was clear he was alluding to Russia and China and their unwillingness on three different occasions to approve resolutions

Sir Alex Ferguson's side will now face a difficult away trip to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea, which is sure to prove another tricky test for the Red Devils.

Anti-austerity violence: Video of riot police clashing with protesters in Madrid

Riot police clash with protesters as they have ringed the Spanish parliament in Madrid where thousands gather for a march against austerity tagged "Occupy Congress". The rich get bailed out, the 99% gets sold out... Solidarity with the brave people of Spain, it's time to stand with all those resisting "austerity" and injustice around the world.. Dude! You had your own student riots a few months ago! The police in Montreal were just as violent - tear gas, baton charges, body armour. It's the same story all around the world: Corrupt Oligarchical Goverment + Racist Corrupt Police Force = FASCIST DICTATORSHIP!For some reason you seem to think that the protesters should not have their ass kicked for getting out of line. You're beginning to sound like you believe in being a bum off of society or a dope addict

Bill Belichick Attacks Ref After Patriots vs. Ravens Game

Baltimore 31, New England 30: A see-saw affair between everyone's favorite AFC powerhouses also had some feel-good moments. Torrey Smith had two touchdowns, the second of which brought Ravens back within two with four minutes left in the game. The Ravens held the Patriots on their final possession, forcing a punt before the two minute warning and with the help of some nice catches and defensive penalties won the game in the final seconds with a 27-yard field goal. At least I think they won it with a field goal. NBC just showed the same impossible angle over and over. Woops!: After Smith put the Ravens on the board with his diving catch, Dennis Pitta gave the Ravens the lead, momentarily, with the old jump over terrible tackling move. Pitta victimized safety Steve Gregory on this one but, of course, the Patriots marched right down the field and took the lead back before the half.

Obama defends record on immigration at Univision forum

The immigration debate took center stage Thursday as U.S. President Barack Obama fielded questions in a forum broadcast live online by the Spanish-language Univision network. "I want you to acknowledge that you did not keep your promise," co-host Jorge Ramos said in Spanish, noting that the president didn't deliver on his 2008 campaign pledge to push immigration reform during the first year of his term. Obama said the first year of his term was consumed by efforts to help the economy and stop the country from going into another Great Depression.

One Direction - One Direction Cover Kings Of Leon At iTunes Festival

One Direction almost caused a riot at the iTunes Festival at London’s Roundhouse on Thursday evening (September 20, 2012) just by, err, being there. The Press Association reports how fans “squealed and cried” as the boy-band took time out from their set to answer ‘Twitter questions’. Some of their answers were inaudible due to the high pitched din that enveloped the historic venue. The question-and-answer session was an intriguing affair; for example, we found out that Zayn things Harry is sexy, and that Liam thinks Niall is cute. Oh wait, and Louis thinks Zayn is kind! Anyway, after that, the audience were treated to a blistering set from the group, who performed some of their biggest hits – You Don’t Know You’re Beautful, One Thing and Moments – as well as some of the tracks they performed while on The X Factor. Their cover of Kings of Leon’s ‘Use Somebody’ went down a storm, as did The Zutons’ ‘Valerie’ and The Black Eyed Peas’ ‘I Gotta Feeling’. It’s safe to say One Direction have been one of Simon Cowell’s biggest success stories, topping the charts on both sides of the Atlantic and selling out huge venues with ease. Addressing the band’s storming success across the pond, Louis (who said Zayn was nice, remember!), told fans, “We have spent time outside of the UK and it is incredible to be back in London.”

Inter 2-2 Rubin Kazan: Nagatomo rescues dramatic late point

Inter had to thank Yuto Nagatomo for his efforts, as the full-back snatched his side a last-gasp 2-2 draw with Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday. The Russians took the lead through Aleksandr Ryazantsev indirectly from the penalty spot inside the first 17 minutes, before Marko Livaja, on his full Nerazzurri debut, restored parity shortly before half-time. Salomon Rondon seemed to have stolen all three points with a fine finish in the latter stages, but it was not to be as the Japanese defender volleyed home in the second minute of stoppage time. An absorbing clash was witnessed at the Giuseppe Meazza, with both teams keen to get their European campaigns on the road, and it was Inter who began most positively, with Antonio Cassano especially lively from the off. However, arguably against the run of play, Rubin were presented with the chance to strike first blood - Jonathan fouled Karadeniz Gokdeniz in the area, and although Bibras Natcho saw his penalty well stopped by Samir Handanovic, Ryazantsev applied the rebound.

NEW ONE DIRECTION VIDEO LEAKS - WATCH 'LIVE WHILE WE'RE YOUNG'

Inevitably, One Direction's new single 'Live While We're Young' will be a No.1 single the world over, putting even more cash in the pockets of the boyband and Sony music boss, Simon Cowell. So we should all just get used to it now. The video sees the boyband camping and enjoying wholesome fun in the countryside in buttoned up shirts, on the back of a fast moving jeep, 'zorbing' on a lake. Most importantly, for their teenage female fans - the boyband spend much of the video soaking wet. One Direction's earnings have today been revealed, with the five-piece said to have pocketed $100m between them in just two years. The news of One Direction's financial might comes from Tom Bower’s new book on X Factor boss Simon Cowell, in which he writes: “Nothing had been left to chance by Sony Music, with the band’s hit album Up All Night selling more than five million copies worldwide. “The songs, the publishing, the discs, the DVDs, the merchandising and endorsements brought in huge profits, with the group estimated to have earned nearly £100million. Naturally, Sony and Syco raked in much more.” Watch the leaked version of 'Live While We're Young' below.

Chelsea vs. Juventus: 6 Things We Learned in 2-2 Draw...

Chelsea got their Champions League defence underway with a 2-2 home draw against Juventus at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. It was not a bad result in and of itself against the Italian champions, but perhaps Roberto di Matteo learned one or two things about his side after they surrendered a two-goal lead. A full debut was handed to the Brazilian Oscar and he responded in style with a two-goal haul inside two minutes, first beating Gianluigi Buffon with a deflected, looping shot and then curling an absolutely glorious second goal home from outside the box. Arturo Vidal pulled one back before half time and Fabio Quagliarella scored the equaliser with just 10 minutes left, though it could have been even worse for Chelsea with the Italian forward hitting the crossbar just a few moments later. Here are six things we learned in the 2-2 draw.

President Barack Obama appears on David Letterman, rebukes Mitt Romney remarks...

President Barack Obama declared Tuesday night the occupant of the Oval Office must "work for everyone, not just for some," jabbing back at Mitt Romney's jarring statement that as a candidate, he doesn't worry about the 47 percent of the country that pays no income taxes.
Romney neither disavowed nor apologized for his remarks, which included an observation that nearly half of the country believe they are victims and entitled to a range of government support. Instead, Romney cast his comment as evidence of a fundamental difference with Obama over the economy, adding the federal government should not "take from some to give to the others."
Obama responded during an appearance on the David Letterman show.

"One thing I've learned as president is that you represent the entire country," he said. As for Romney's statement about the 47 percent, he said, "There are not a lot of people out there who think they are victims" or simply entitled.
Obama was in New York for a handful of campaign events, anchored by a star-studded bash hosted by Jay-Z and Beyonce at Hova's 40/40 club in the Flatiron District.

Real Madrid scores twice late to beat Man City 3-2 in Champions League comeback; PSG wins

Real Madrid scored twice late in an electrifying finish Tuesday to beat Manchester City 3-2 to open the Champions League group stage, while Paris Saint-Germain marked its new big-spending era with an emphatic 4-1 win over Dynamo Kiev.

Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo beat goalkeeper Joe Hart in the 90th minute to cap a dramatic comeback as the nine-time Champions League winners twice came from behind for a morale-boosting victory over the English champions following a week of domestic disarray. While Madrid showed its pedigree as nine-time champion against its rich and ambitious opponent, AC Milan couldn’t seem to use one of its favorite competitions to shake off its early season troubles as it was held to a 0-0 draw at home to Anderlecht.

Also, Robert Lewandowski scored late as Borussia Dortmund kept pace with Madrid in the tough Group D with a 1-0 win over Ajax.

The X-Factor Australia Live Blog: Results Show 01

Last night on The X-Factor Australia we watched the first of the Live Shows where each of the Final 12 acts in contention performed a song. Some did a great job (Angel, The Collective, Sammy), some were terrible (Fourtunate, jason), and the rest fell somewhere in between. Tonight we find out which ones Australia voted for the most and which one, out of the ones with the lowest number of votes, will be booted by the judges. If tonight's show is anywhere near as lively as Jason's suspiciously dark eyebrows we're in for a treat!7:34pm: I just remembered that tonight Ronan Keating is performing a song from his new album. Fuck.

7:36pm: First the whole crowd of finalists are performing en masse. It's "Call Me Maybe" for heaven's sake. One of my least favourite contestants, Josh, is wearing what he must consider his signature look: large headphones and sunglasses on top of his head a la Alex Perry. This entire thing is an almighty train wreck.

7:40pm: I'm having a* wine. Tonight, in addition to Ronan singing some terrible adult-contemporary song, Guy Sebastian is singing his chart hit with Lupe Fiasco. There's a lot of strategic time-wasting to look forward to.

*four.

7:45pm: Tonight my least favourite judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte looks pretty good in a iridescent blue frock and messy hair. Nice job, stylists. Mel B has her breasts out, no surprises there. Ronan is wearing an annoying indoor scarf. More of this kind of fascinating commentary to follow! Stay tuned everyone!

7:51pm: Alright ladies and gentlemen, here we have Ronan singing his new single "Fires". Fake comets are shooting down upon him and his hair is styled in a manner that almost perfectly resembles the snout of a pig in profile.

7:53pm: Actual flames are being shot from the stage in blasts, and a fake blaze is raging on the screens behind Ronan. Because the song is called "Fires".

7:57pm: That was bland but tolerable. Johnny Ruffo pipes up from behind the scenes as The X-Factor's social media correspondent. He needs to take a leaf out of Ronan's book and get fired immediately. He's been relegated to pre-recorded sponsor messages after an embarrassing earwig fail last night.

8:03pm: Serious time now: All the contestants are back on stage with the judges and we find out who is staying. First up... Angel. Well deserved because she was terrific last night. The next person to get through is Jason. I'm relieved. He wasn't great last night, but he's such a delight.

8:05pm: Next through are two of the boy bands, The Collective and What About Tonight; then it's announced that the adorable Shiane and painful Josh have gotten through as well.

8:06pm: Oldmate Justin and Fourtunate are declared safe as well. We're down to four contestants. Two will be safe and the other two will have to 'sing for their lives'.

8:08pm: Host Luke Jacobz announces that Bella is safe to rapturous screams from the audience, as well as Nathaniel. That leaves Guy's contestant and his best friend Sammy and Mel B's vest-inclined R&B singer Adil. Now they sing for their lives, which must mean they will perform again and it'll come down to a vote between the two of them. I'm not at all surprised to see these two in the bottom. Sammy was good last night but she's boring and no one likes nepotism. Adil's performance was average and he's not a very engaging character.

8:15pm: "Battle Scars" now being performed by Guy and Lupe. Don't hate me but I think this song is perfectly okay. In a it-sounds-like-something-T.I.'s-already-done kind of way. Lupe Fiasco has dreads. The production expense of each set piece must be phenomenal. There's a smoking car, more jets of fire and a lot of synthesised smoke. Very 'urban'.

8:25pm: It's now time for Sammy and Adil to do their final performances. Mel B is shocked because "Adil has so much more to give". Guy pragmatically comments that this is just another chance for the contestants to show what they've got. Adil's up first.

8:29pm: He is singing "Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars. His voice sounds okay except he'll be no great loss if voted out. The dude has such an aversion to tops with sleeves it is getting on my nerves. Denim vests have their time and place, but not every evening on live television.

8:31pm: Sammy's turn. She's singing "I Can't Live (If Living Is Without You)", the Mariah version. Her voice is very well controlled and sweet, but her overall vibe just isn't particularly compelling. Out of the two Sammy's was definitely the better performance though. It'll be interesting to see what the judges say and who they pick.

8:38pm: Guy votes for Sammy - naturally. Mel B, of course, votes for her own boy Adil. Nat pussyfoots around for a while but finally gets rid of the contestant who belongs to the pool of her judging panel enemy: Adil.

8:39pm: It comes down to Ronan's vote. And he chooses to send home... Adil. Fair call, judges. He was a bit of a bore.

8:42pm: Adil is crying the poor kid. But that doesn't take away from the fact that you and I won't miss him. Alright, that's the show for tonight. If you are outraged l

Review: 'Borderlands 2' an explosive call to arms

It's difficult to find a video game player who didn't fall in love with the 2009 hit Borderlands, a first-person shooter where players stockpile countless firearms in search of treasure and trouble in the form of bandits and local wildlife.
The series known for the 17-million-gun arsenal returns in Borderlands 2, a sequel that doubles down on the mayhem with more enemies, a larger world to explore and -- shockingly -- an even better assortment of crazy weaponry.
Borderlands takes place on the planet Pandora, where players searched for an ancient alien vault as one of four mercenaries. The second chapter centers on the exploits of Handsome Jack, the notorious CEO of the Hyperion Corporation who has claimed discovering of the vault and all its riches. Four new Vault Hunters enter the fray, working with a resistance group to stop Jack's plans to resurrect a powerful entity called "The Warrior."
The action franchise from studio Gearbox Software is a hybrid of the first-person shooter and role-playing game. The game itself is a FPS, but features elements of the RPG such as earning experience, leveling up and collecting gear such as shields, health packs and those magical guns.

Mitt Romney derides Obama supporters in hidden-camera speech

Washington: Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney dismissed supporters of President Barack Obama - almost half of US voters - as people who live off government handouts and do not "care for their lives," in a potentially damaging video.

The video, taken secretly at a fundraising event for the former private-equity executive, was the latest setback for a campaign struggling with low poll numbers and reports of infighting.

"There are 47 per cent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them," Mr Romney said in a hidden-camera video of remarks to potential donors earlier this year posted on Monday on left-wing Mother Jones magazine's website

WWE Night of Champions 2012: John Cena and Superstars Guaranteed to Lose on PPV..

WWE Night of Champions may showcase each WWE Championship, but not every superstar will receive the same notoriety on pay-per-view. Though some superstars will be able to save face despite losses, these superstars are guaranteed to walk back up the ramp with their head hanging.

Kofi Kingston and R-Truth

Many thought Kofi Kingston and R-Truth would lose their WWE Tag Team Championships to the Prime Time Players at SummerSlam in wake of the A.W. controversy. Thankfully, WWE decided to keep the titles on Kingston and Truth, since the Prime Time Players have yet to prove they are ready for the spotlight.

Now, Kingston and Truth will face their toughest test to date in the newly formed superstar tandem of Kane and Daniel Bryan (yes, Kane went first here). Kane and D-Bry have provided the single most entertaining segments each week over the past several weeks, and WWE knows they need to keep the momentum alive. The only way to do that is to make sure they walk away with the titles.

Miss Gangnam Style's PSY on SNL Tonight?

If you are like the 2 million other Americans up late watching Saturday Night Live, you probably got a good laugh off of all the political satire going down. The highlight of the evening thus far, however, might have been the appearance of a nationally and even internationally trending meme - Gangnam Style. Never heard of it till tonight? No worries. Let me school you. Check out my quick blurb on what Gangnam Style is and where it came from and the take a gander at the plentiful resource of videos I have provided - including PSY's appearance tonight on SNL - though I must admit the copy is sorta ghetto. As soon as a better is available, I'll be sure to upload it.

USC vs. Stanford: live game report

The Cardinal, thanks mostly to quarterback Josh Nunes, has taken the lead over the Trojans.

Nunes had an 11-yard completion to Ty Montgomery for a first down early in their 10-play, 79-yard scoring drive and on a key third-down play near midfield scrambled for 13 yards, dodging two USC defenders that could have stopped him short of the mark, to get another first down.

Nunes then connected two plays later with Zach Ertz for a 37-yard scoring strike. Jordan Williamson's conversion kick gave Stanford a 21-14 lead.

Stanford 14, USC 14 (10 seconds left in third quarter)

Stepfan Taylor isn't always included in conversations about the best running backs in the Pac-12 Conference.

But he should always be included in conversations about backs that have given USC fits in recent seasons.

Taylor has had big games against USC before, and he's having another this evening. He just took a screen pass from quarterback Josh Nunes and turned it into a 23-yard touchdown, breaking four arm tackles along the way to tying the score.

Taylor has run for 112 yards and a touchdown in 18 carries and he has four receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Meantime, Stanford's defense is making it tough for USC and quarterback Matt Barkley.

The Cardinal has forced three turnovers, given up just 41 yards rushing and has sacked Barkley three times. USC is 1 for 11 in third-down conversions.

USC 14, Stanford 7 (6:50 left left in third quarter)

Alex Wood will have to wait for his first field-goal attempt for USC.

Coach Lane Kiffin sent out the freshman walk-on kicker for an apparent 30-yard field-goal try, but the Trojans shifted into a shotgun formation and holder/quarterback Matt Barkley threw a pass into the end zone instead.

The pass, intended for fullback Soma Vainuku, was stripped away at the last second by Stanford's Ronnie Harris.

USC, 14, Stanford 7 (10:51 left in third quarter)

This has been a tough game so far for Stanford kicker Jordan Williamson.

Williamson missed field-goal attempts from 47 and 23 yards in the first half, and he just had a 51-yard try blocked by USC's T.J. McDonald.

Boxing Live Blog: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs Sergio Martinez ..

HBO commentator Emanuel Steward is out ill tonight. We're all thinking of him and miss him.

A few weeks ago, Emanuel told me he was really surprised how good Chavez has gotten and how strong he was against his fighter, Andy Lee.

Now they're showing Chavez doing yoga-like stretches; not something you would have seen in the old days from Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake LaMotta.

Sudanese protesters moving in cars, buses towards U.S. embassy outside Khartoum: Reuters witness

Demonstrators attacked the U.S. embassies in Yemen and Egypt on Thursday in protest at a film they consider blasphemous to Islam, and American warships headed towards Libya after the U.S. ambassador there was killed in related violence this week.

In Libya, authorities said they had made four arrests in the investigation into the attack that killed ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americas in Benghazi on Tuesday.

President Barack Obama has vowed to bring to justice those responsible for the Benghazi attack, which U.S. officials said may have been planned in advance, possibly by an al Qaeda-linked group.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Washington had nothing to do with the crudely made film posted on the Internet, which she called "disgusting and reprehensible."

The amateurish production, entitled the "Innocence of Muslims," and originating in the United States, portrays Mohammad as a womanizer, a homosexual and a child abuser.

For many Muslims, any depiction of the Prophet is blasphemous and caricatures or other characterizations have in the past provoked violent protests across the Muslim world.

Demonstrations spread further on Thursday, with U.S. embassies again the targets of popular anger among Muslims questioning why the United States has failed to take action against the makers of the film.

Hundreds of Yemenis broke through the main gate of the heavily fortified U.S. embassy compound in the capital Sanaa, shouting "We sacrifice ourselves for you, Messenger of God." They smashed windows of security offices outside the embassy and burned cars.

A security source said at least 15 people were wounded, some by gunfire, before the government ringed the area with troops.

In Egypt, protesters hurled stones at a police cordon around the U.S. embassy in central Cairo after climbing into the embassy compound and tearing down the American flag. The state news agency said 13 people were hurt in violence which erupted late on Wednesday, following initial protests on Tuesday.

Around 200 demonstrators gathered outside the U.S. embassy in Kuwait shouting slogans such as "God is great." They hoisted banners, one of which bread in English: "USA stop the bullshit. Respect us."

Kuwaiti riot police encircled the crowd of men protesting peacefully in their traditional Kuwaiti dress.

On Thursday, the U.S. consulate in Berlin was partially evacuated after an employee fell ill on opening a suspicious envelope. Bangladeshi Islamists tried to march on the U.S. embassy in Dhaka and Iranian students protested in Tehran.

Earlier in the week, there were protests outside U.S. missions in Tunisia, Morocco and Sudan.

The U.S. ambassador to Libya was killed during a protest against the film on Tuesday at the U.S. consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi when Islamists armed with guns, mortars and grenades staged military-style assaults on the mission and a safe house refuge.

A Libyan doctor at a Benghazi hospital said Stevens died of smoke inhalation. U.S. information technology specialist Sean Smith also died at the consulate, while two other Americans were killed when a squad of U.S. troops sent by helicopter from Tripoli to rescue diplomats from the safe house came under mortar attack.

FIRST U.S. AMBASSADOR KILLED SINCE 1979

Stevens, 52, had spent a career operating in perilous places, mostly in the Arab world, and became the first American ambassador killed in an attack since Adolph Dubs, the U.S. envoy to Afghanistan, died in a 1979 kidnapping attempt.

Tuesday's incident, on what was the 11th anniversary of al Qaeda's attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, has created an unwanted foreign policy crisis for Obama ahead of his bid for reelection in November.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Colorado on Thursday, Obama said he had ordered his administration to do whatever was necessary to protect Americans abroad and that aides had been in contact with other governments "to let them know they've got a responsibility to protect our citizens."

Russian lawmaker expelled over his anti-Putin stance

A former KGB colonel turned opposition lawmaker who has angered the Kremlin with his scathing criticism and involvement in street protests against President Vladimir Putin was stripped of his parliament seat on Friday.

Gennady Gudkov’s removal from the lower house paves the way for similar action against other opposition lawmakers, sending a clear message to members that they serve at the pleasure of the Kremlin.

The 291-150 vote with three abstentions to expel Gudkov from the State Duma also means he will no longer be protected by immunity from prosecution. His supporters fear he could face arrest.

Gudkov denounced the move as “political revenge and extrajudicial repression.”

Gudkov, like Putin a KGB veteran, is not your typical Russian protester. This 56-year-old stout, mustached man cut a striking figure among young activists as he chanted “Putin, Resign!” from the stage at opposition rallies last winter.

That was on weekends. During the week, he donned expensive suits and attended close-door meetings at the Russian parliament. He was deputy chairman of Parliament’s security committee and enjoyed good relations with many senior officials in Russian police security agencies.

Fake field goal Touchdown Chicago vs Green Bay 09/13/2012

Green Bay Packers punter Tim Masthay pulled a fast one on the Chicago Bears with a field goal fake that turned into a pass to tight end Tom Crabtree for a 27-yard
Regardless of how the Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers game plays out, there are sure to be some players in the spotlight.

The Bears were lucky enough to play the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, and it was a complete mismatch. The Chicago defense forced Andrew Luck into three interceptions and apart from an early Colts defensive touchdown, the Bears were never really challenged.

Green Bay played in a playoff preview last week and ended up losing to the San Francisco 49ers. A season-opening loss against a top-five team isn't ideal for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations of its own. Having an easier season opener usually works best, and the Packers felt the effects when they lost a tight game.

After some trash talking over the past week, the Bears vs. Packers should be an exciting and heated game. Here's a look at six players to watch in Thursday night's matchup.

Sorry Britney! X Factor USA Ratings Are A Disaster Losing Over Three Millon Viewers

The season premiere of The X Factor USA was a flop with audiences losing 3.5 million viewers from last year, struggling against a clashing episode of The Voice, losing out to it's NBC rival by three million viewers.

Although the figure rose significantly in the second hour of the broadcast, the sophomore talent show managed to land an average 8.5 million viewers 32% less than it's 2011 opener according to Reuters and significantly less than the spinny-chair show's 10.7 million.

However, it was a straight tie in terms of demo ratings, with both shows scoring 3.3 overall.

Apple iPhone 5: What reviewers are saying

Apple’s iPhone 5 launch Wednesday unveiled an iPhone that has a larger screen but is thinner and lighter than any iPhone in the company’s history.

Those who got some brief time with the iPhone 5 in San Francisco after the presentation are almost completely unanimous in their assessment: There are lots of little changes that make the iPhone 5, overall, a much better phone. No one has complaints about the phone itself from the brief time they’ve spent with it. Wired’s Christina Bonnington said the most noticeable difference is the phone’s weight — or rather, the lack thereof.

“After years using the 4/4S form factor, I found the weight loss completely surprising, especially given the increased size,” she wrote. “It’s actually lighter than plasticky Samsung phones like the Galaxy S III, yet it doesn’t feel cheap.”

Others mentioned that the phone has great “hand-feel” that they found difficult to describe.

“It always shocks me how much a simple materials change makes something feel, and it's always impossible to convey these differences,” wrote Anand Lal Shimpi and Brian Klug of AnandTech. “But the lighter and thinner form factor is very perceptible. The 4 and 4S always felt solid, the 5 moves to a much more ethereal form, and the lightness almost makes it feel like a hollow metal box.”

Shimpi and Klug also noted the performance of the A6 chip, which they said “noticeably improved” how well the phone runs. They couldn’t benchmark the phone at all, but found they could use Apple’s new Maps app and look at 3D buildings without dropping any frames.

Another big difference that drew a lot of pixels was the screen, which drives the phone’s taller form factor, and is supposed to be a “perfect fit” for HD video, according to The New York Times’s David Pogue. And having an added row for icons, Pogue said, is a welcome addition.

TechCrunch reviewer John Biggs said that the screen is the “real draw here” and while he’s reserving final judgement, it seems that “if you’re looking for something in the sweet spot between monsters like the Galaxy S III and the arguably bordering-on-too-small (at this point) iPhone 4, this may be a good compromise.”

Over at CNET, reviewers Kent German and Scott Stein said the camera has a new dynamic light mode that will let you launch photo apps twice as quickly, and they particularly appreciated the additional ability to take photos while you shoot video.

One pain point here that many reviewers identified: the new dock connector. Yes, it makes all of the thin, light, big-screened goodness in the iPhone possible but it also means that, if you upgrade, all those cases and accessories you’ve collected over the years no longer fit.

Not only that, but Slashgear reported Thursday morning that there are some accessories that won’t work with the $29 adapter that Apple is selling to settle complaints about being backward-compatible. Apple’s site for the product says specifically that “Some 30-pin accessories are not supported” and that Video and iPod Out, designed to let iPods work with car stereo systems, will also not work with the new adapter.

Protesters Try To Storm US Embassy In Yemen

Up to 5,000 protesters are trying to storm the US embassy in Yemen as anger about an anti-Muslim film spreads in the Middle East.

Hundreds got past two police barricades and managed to get through the main gate into the US compound in Sanaa. They were then driven back by security forces firing weapons into the air.

The latest TV pictures appear to show the gate being pulled down, and smoking rising from inside the complex.

Young demonstrators shouting "we redeem, Messenger of God" smashed windows of security offices outside the embassy and set fire to cars and tyres. Others held banners declaring "Allah is Greatest".

In Egypt, protests have continued for a second day outside the US embassy in Cairo, provoked by an American-made anti-Islam film, being promoted on YouTube and said to insult the Prophet Mohammed.

Police were pelted with rocks and fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi slammed the film and its "attacks" on Islam, while also stressing that he condemned the violence.

"We Egyptians reject any kind of assault or insult against our prophet. I condemn and oppose all who ... insult our prophet," he said, during an official visit to Brussels. "(But) it is our duty to protect our guests and visitors from abroad."

Egypt's ruling Muslim Brotherhood is calling for protests across the country after prayers on Friday.

The violence came a day after the US embassy was attacked in Libya, and there are fears protests will spread to other countries in the Muslim world. US ambassador Chris Stevens and three other American officials died as gunmen fired rocket-propelled grenades and set fire to the compound in Benghazi.

The US is investigating whether it was a co-ordinated terrorist strike to mark the anniversary of the 9/11 atrocity. It had been thought it was a spontaneous protest provoked by an American-made anti-Islam film, being promoted on YouTube and said to insult the Prophet Mohammed.

But a US counterterrorism official has said the Benghazi violence was "too co-ordinated or professional" to be spontaneous.

In Tunisia, police fired tear gas and rubber bullets into the air to disperse a protest by around 200 people near the US embassy in the capital Tunis. There were also protests outside US embassies in Morocco, Sudan, and Baghdad.
